Merry Christmas!

This is the Christmas card I designed this year to send out to all my friends. I wanted to do something hand-lettered and illustrative...

Creative Wrapping

I had a big box to wrap for a Christmas gift, and at about 11:00 the night before I was supposed to give the gift, I realized that the wrapping paper that I had wasn't big enough. Uh oh! Soooo, I had to do some quick thinking and pull together what I had around my house. The gift was already in a a nice white Crate and Barrel box, so I decided to see if I could find some pretty ribbon and odds and ends to put together. After topping it off with a few small branches off my Christmas tree and a couple of mini snowflake ornaments, I had a very pretty bow! And it didn't cost me anything!

Happy Holidays

A holiday card I'm working on for my company. I'm also trying to do some basic Flash stuff with it. See it animated

Thank You

As always, thank you cards are very important. I decided to do a little watercolor for this one.

Eagle

This is a scratchboard study I did of an eagle. I really love scratchboard because you can get a really nice, sharp detail that gives great dimension and makes the illustration look quite realistic.

Girly Frame

I made a cute little picture frame for my friend's 25th birthday. All it took was a blank wooden frame, a little paint, and some scrapbooking stickers!

Hanging of the Greens

My church asked me to design a program cover for an upcoming "Hanging of the Greens" service. The service is all about the symbolism of Christmas (ie "Symbolically, the star-shaped formation of red leaves of a Poinsettia calls to mind the star which shone at that first Christmas" and "Christians took evergreens as a symbol of the everlasting life—unending life which is ours when we receive Christ as Savior and Lord.") So I wanted to do something that was a little abstract and not so literal...

Creative Bridal Shower Gift

I had a bridal shower to go to today, and rather than buy something from the registry, I wanted to make my gift a little more unique. So I decided to put together a little scrapbook package that the bride could use to make a scrapbook of the honeymoon. I wanted to make the album cover fun and more personal, so I painted "Our Honeymoon" in a tropical style since the couple is honeymooning in Punta Cana. I love how it turned out, and I'm definitely going to do this again for future showers.

Jack-O-Lanterns, Take 2

I had so much fun carving the first pumpkin that I decided to do two more. Happy Halloween!

Jack-O-Lantern

Its that time again! Time for some good old fashioned pumpkin carving. Although my experiences in the past carving faces into pumpkins using those carving kits have never fared well. The little knives they give you always break half way through, or you accidentally slip and your pumpkin ends up with a few less teeth than originally intended. So this year I opted for something that I'm a little more comfortable with and feel that I have a little more control over; a linoleum cutter. I love how it turned out.

And P.S. Toasted pumpkin seeds? Yes please!

Avacado & Grilled Shrimp Salad with Cilantro Lime Dressing

So this isn't technically a "design thing" per-say, but I was very proud of the dinner I made myself and thought it looked pretty. It tasted really good too!

Keep Going

Another quote that's been on my mind a lot lately...
"Unless you faint, puke or die...keep going!"

Road Less Traveled

I wanted to fool around with some fun hand lettering and decided a quote would be perfect for my experiment. This quote has been stuck in my head a lot lately, and it's one that I'd like to practice in own life a bit more...

Fall Decor on a Budget

My house needed a little something to put it in the fall spirit, so I took a trip to the craft store to see what I could put together. My house is much more festive now

Letterheads

Another part of brand identity I love is letterheads. These are a few I did when I was trying to design my resume letterhead.

Logos

One of my favorite things to design are logos. They are so essential to brand identity; they are the first impression and can say so much about a company with a few simple marks. Here are a few logos I've designed...

If you were a country...

A little while ago, some of my co-workers and I got into a conversation about what our names would be if we were countries (don't ask, its a long story). So I thought it would be fun to create flags that represented each of us. We now proudly fly them in our cubes.

"The United Civil States of Q"

"Welshland"

"Szivoslakia"

"Biggietopia"

"Nastyland"

"Bruzekistan"
